Murano, Burano and Torcello
The most important islands in the Venetian lagoon are Murano, Burano and Torcello. If you are visiting Venice, a half day trip to those islands is a must do. Murano, is worldwide known for the production of artistic glass, you can visit one of the most ancient factories to see masters blowing the glass; Burano, a nice fishermen village important for the production of laces, is characterized by its multicolored houses; Torcello, is where the history of Venice began as it was the first settlement in the lagoon during the barbarian invasions. Important to see it the imposing cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta: inside you can admire the huge mosaic of the Last Judgement.
You can reach the islands from Venice by waterbus: Actv lines 4.1 and 4.2 will take you from Venezia – Fondamente Nove to Murano; from the same stop you can take line 12 that will take you also to Burano (from there alight with line 9 to Torcello). You can also reach by car Punta Sabbioni and catch line 12 to Burano from there.
